Excerpt:

Chapter One: Wherein a Delightful Luncheon Is Cut Short

Wellington Thornhill Books took in a deep breath, sparing just a moment to collect his wits. Otherwise he risked not living to see dessert.

The archivist-turned-agent dabbed at the corner of his mouth with his snow-white napkin, and draped it carefully over his lap. Outside the window the gleaming Atlantic rolled under their ocean liner the African Sunset, but that was not the view that held his attention.  His focus remained with the dandy in front of him. Since their first meeting, the bombastic Lord seemed rather taken with the sound of his own voice, which was why the change in his dining companion's demeanour came as such a shock.

If an attack should come Wellington still had his dinner knife and fork. He was also in possession of a glass of wine, half finished—a pity to use, since it was a delightful vintage and paired perfectly with the duck—that could blind his opponent for a few valuable moments.

His lunch date kept a hard glare fixed on him, the monocle digging into the folds of his cheek. Rather unexpected to Wellington, Lord Hieronymus Featherstone had run out of things to say, and was now giving him his undivided attention.

Wellington thought he had shown unending fortitude while being subjected to Featherstone's eternal droning on about his recent excursions across Africa, India, and Siam. He now knew to what far reaches Lord Featherstone had traversed in the name of Her Majesty—which might be useful.

Yet now Featherstone sat before him, no longer the awful, droning chatterbox. The gentleman's jaw twitched as he kept his ice-chip blue eyes trained on Wellington, demanding satisfaction.

"Well," the lord spoke, his voice booming from his barrel chest, "answer me, man."

Sod it, Wellington thought as he picked up his glass. At the very least, I will finish this excellent wine.

"You obviously mentioned her name during one of your riveting stories when crossing the Serengeti," Wellington replied, taking in a good, long sip of his wine.

"My dear Bernice does not care for heat."

"Then perhaps you mentioned her joining you as you crossed the Canadian Rockies?"

"Nor does she care for the cold."

Mrs. Bernice Featherstone did not sound either lovely or agreeable, a perfect match for her husband, it seemed.

Nodding in resignation, Wellington cast another quick glance across the table, taking note of the knife and fork. Both hardly suited for close-quarter combat, but still useful. "M'lord, we could speculate for the entirety of the afternoon on how I came to know your lovely wife's name, but why don't we just cut this clever banter short and try a more direct form of engagement."

"Which would be?"

"The truth." With a final dab at of the corners of his mouth, Wellington dropped the napkin on the table, swiping up the fork and placing it in his lap. He positioned the silverware for a quick thrust as he began. "Lord Featherstone, it is no lie when I say your company has been enlightening. I have genuinely enjoyed our spirited and scintillating discussions whilst we journey around the Ivory Coast. However, to say we 'met you' by chance would be disingenuous." His grip tightened on the fork as he said, "My associate and I have been tracking you since your boarding in Conakry."

About the Authors:

Philippa (Pip) Ballantine

Born in Wellington, New Zealand, Philippa has always had her head in a book. For this she blames her father who thought Lord of the Rings was suitable bedtime reading for an eight year old. At the age of thirteen she began writing fantasy stories for herself.

She first earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Political Science and then a Bachelor of Applied Science in Library and Information Science. So soon enough she found herself working in the magical world of libraries where she stayed for over a decade.

Her first professional sale was in 1997, and since then she has gone on to produce mostly novel length fiction. In 2006 she became New Zealand’s first podcast novelist, and she has voiced and produced Weaver’s Web, Chasing the Bard, Weather Child and Digital Magic as podiobooks. Her podcasts have been short listed for the Parsec Awards, and won a Sir Julius Vogel award.

Philippa is the author of the Books of the Order series with Ace- Geist and Spectyr and Wrayth out now, and Harbinger to follow. She is also the co-author of the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences series with Tee Morris. Phoenix Rising debuted in May 2011 and The Janus Affair came out in May 2012. She also has the Shifted World series with Pyr Books, with the first book Hunter and Fox out now.

When not writing or podcasting, Philippa loves reading, gardening, and whenever possible traveling. With her husband, Tee and her daughter, she is looked after by a mighty clowder of three cats.

Tee Morris

Tee Morris began his writing career with his 2002 historical epic fantasy, MOREVI The Chronicles of Rafe & Askana. In 2005 Tee took MOREVI into the then-unknown podosphere, making his novel the first book podcast in its entirety. That experience led to the founding of Podiobooks.com and collaborating with Evo Terra and Chuck Tomasi on Podcasting for Dummies and its follow-up, Expert Podcasting Practices for Dummies. He won acclaim and accolades for his cross-genre fantasy-detective Billibub Baddings Mysteries, the podcast of The Case of the Singing Sword winning him the 2008 Parsec Award for Best Audio Drama. Along with those titles, Tee has written articles and short stories for BenBella Books’s Farscape Forever: Sex, Drugs, and Killer Muppets, the podcast anthology VOICES: New Media Fiction, BenBella Books’ So Say We All: Collected Thoughts and Opinions of Battlestar Galactica, and Dragon Moon Press’ Podthology: The Pod Complex.

Tee brought all these skills to the award-winning Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences series which he wrote with his wife, Pip Ballantine. When he is not writing, Tee enjoys life in Virginia alongside Philippa Ballantine, his daughter, and three cats.

Guest Post & Giveaway: Spies Like Us by Amber Malloy

Guest Post

My TBR List

What you read as a teenager is probably not what you read as an adult. When did this change and what have you noticed in your reading list that is different?

Although I was mostly into horror books as a teenager, I rarely read that genre anymore. Don’t get me wrong I still like a good scare, it’s just that no one has elevated past the initial bumps in the night which enamored me as a teen. The Shining, Carrie, Ghost Story, Watchers, Phantoms—these books were eye opening thrills for someone on the cusp of adulthood. Romance wasn’t really my thing; a few Danielle Steel books here and there mixed in with some Catherine Coulter were tossed into my TBR list. However, my problem with the genre at the time was mostly the women were damsels in distress. Since my mind doesn’t work that way, I stuck with the creatures under the bed.

Around college a shift happened where suspense became my main focus—dominant women who had to hunt down the killer before the maniac turned the tables and hunted them. These books were fun to read, and my feminism card was never called into question. Unfortunately, the backdrop was always dim. Wallowing around in the darkness of suspense took a toll on my imagination, which forced me to find lighter fare. I stumbled upon Nora Roberts, Jennifer Cruise, and Susan Elizabeth Phillips. These masters of romance don’t do victims. Instead, they do fierce women in screwed up situations. I can deal with that more so than the chick who needs to be saved. A lot of historicals use this device, since real history wasn’t so hip to women’s lib it was just easier to put the heroine in the hands of a strong buck of a man.

As of late my reading list has taken another shift—kick ass witches, werewolf shifters, and a Marilyn Monroe look-a-like who doubles as a detective. I must need a good laugh because all these books are light and fun and not one damsel in distress. Don’t get me wrong, if any of my horror peeps put out a new book I’ll be the first in line. If Beverly Jenkins decides to give me a feisty heroine in an era that didn’t have working plumbing I’m there. My reading list is ever-changing and I am open to almost anything. The one thing I know for sure is I will never give up on a quick thinking women.

Excerpt

Elle’s breathing came quicker a moment before she jerked awake, sitting straight up beside him. She glanced around as if dazed. After a few moments, she glanced to him and frowned. “How long was I asleep?”

“Not long. Maybe twenty minutes.”

After scrubbing a hand down her face, she stood and walked to her side of the room. He let out a sigh at her attempt to put space between them. There was no amount of space that could stop him from smelling her, sensing her strength and passion for painting. He was betting she’d had another dream. What worried him was that he couldn’t tell how bad it was because she’d shut him out emotionally.

“I’m going upstairs to talk with Drake and Seth. I think I found Rayna.” He waited for her response, which was immediate.

“Really? That’s great.” She spoke through the curtain. Her silhouette moved toward the table, and a few moments later, she picked up her paint palette and a paintbrush.

“Did you need me to bring you anything?” he stood and moved to the door.

She sighed. “No. Just need some time alone.”

He almost argued that she spent too much time alone, not eating like she should and not sleeping. But he let it go, for the moment anyway. However, his dragon wasn’t going to wait much longer before the beast insisted they claim her.

But he couldn’t do that. Not yet.

Without another word, he forced himself to leave her and crossed the basement to the stairs. He’d work in Markus’s study for the rest of the afternoon so he wouldn’t be tempted to drag Elle up to bed. They’d only end up arguing. Elle clung to her independence like a security blanket. Every time he tried to help her, she got mad and they ended up in a fight.

How in Hades was he supposed to woo her into a mating?

Once on the first floor, he sent a telepathic request to Drake and Seth to meet him in the study. He wasn’t surprised that the males were already there. What did shock him was Seth’s hair standing on end. When Seth glanced up at him, Zavier narrowed his gaze. The male had dark circles under his eyes. Eyes that held his dragon in them. “You all right?”

A low growl rumbled from Seth, then he cursed and threaded his hands through his hair, fisting handfuls along the way. “No.” He stilled and cocked his head as he stared at Zavier. “You found her.”

Holding up a hand, Zavier said, “Possibly. What’s wrong with you?”

Seth was the playful one. Next to Zavier, the male was the calmest of the five of them. However, in that moment, he made Ty seem like the gentle dragon. Power fueled by his emotions swirled in the room and thickened the air around him. Seth got up from his seat at the small, round table next to the window and advanced toward him. “Give me the address. I have to go to her now. Before it’s too late.”

Zavier stood his ground. He didn’t like to be ordered around. And he typically liked to avoid conflict, but Seth clearly needed—or wanted—an ass kicking. “It might not be her. Then what? We waste time chasing a ghost?”

“Show. Me. The. Address.” Seth growled out each word, his eyes going complete dragon.

Snarling back, Zavier stepped forward, only to have Drake step between them and grab the front of Seth’s shirt. “Get your shit together. Don’t let your dragon think for you. It’s a lonely life having to hide from others because you let your dragon rule your emotions.”

Seth stared at Drake, blinked once, and then focused on Zavier. “Fuck.” He stepped back with his hands raised. He dropped his shoulders and paced the room, his body still tense and a little twitchy.

Glancing at Drake, Zavier raised a brow. That was the most the male had spoken at one time while not actively searching for Garrick. Drake especially didn’t talk about his past. Ever.

EXCERPT FROM DARK FLAME BY CARIS ROANE

ROBERT BRANNICK STARED at Juliet, every suspicion lit on fire. She’d been the star of a recent dream and the hot-as-hell images kept streaming through his head like a porn movie he couldn’t shut off.
Yet something about the dream wasn’t right.
He just didn’t know why.
He was in the garage of a private homeowner, moving boxes away from a secret tunnel entrance he’d built to smuggle abused human females out of Five Bridges. Tonight, Juliet had driven the van containing four of them, each rescued from Revel Territory sex clubs. With the vehicle in the garage and the door shut, the neighbors wouldn’t be able to see what they were up to.
He steadily shifted boxes and plastic tubs out of the way.
Another image flashed.
Juliet’s long curly hair splayed out on his red sheets.
Lips parted.
His body moving over hers, connected.
Her cries filled his bedroom.
He could see each freckle on her creamy skin and her hair smelled like strawberries.
So real, like more than a dream.
Doubt nagged at him about what had actually happened between them, as in something very fae and highly illegal.
He glanced at Juliet again, the star of his cockfest and a beautiful alter fae woman. He couldn’t seem to move as he watched her.
She stood next to the van and wore a loose, light green dress, a gauzy thing that draped her curves. He’d seen those curves in his dream, beautiful, lush, full. His hands and mouth had been all over her. Would she look the same as what he’d pictured beneath the dress?
She glanced at him and turned her hand in question, probably because he was staring at her. She had large, dark blue eyes, even delicate features and all those faint freckles that in the dream he’d kissed over and over.
She was about to open the door, but when he remained silent and staring, she let go of the latch and turned in his direction.
“Everything okay?” Her voice had a soft, melodious sound. She was a feminine kind of woman, not like the vampire females he banged noisily in Crescent Territory. But then Juliet was an alter fae who lived in Revel, not vampire at all. In many ways, she was his opposite.
He tore his gaze away from her, resisting the urge to clear his throat, then put his feet in motion. He called out, “Everything’s fine.”
But he knew in his gut it wasn’t. As soon as they got the women to safety, he’d have to confront her about what he suspected was going on...
Grab the boxed set for just $0.99 to read this story and seven others…

Book Review/Blog Tour: Allerleirauh by Chantal Gadoury

Title: Allerleirauh
Author: Chantal Gadoury
Genre: Fantasy Romance / Fairytale Retelling / Young Adult

Once Upon A Time…

A King makes a promise to his dying wife to marry only someone with her golden hair. The King finds his eyes are turned by his maturing daughter. Realizing her Father’s intentions, Princess Aurelia tries to trick her Father by requesting impossible gifts: Dresses created by the Sun, Moon and Stars and a Coat made of a Thousand furs. When she discovers his success, Aurelia decides to sacrifice her privileged life and escapes the Kingdom disguised in the cloak, and under a new name, “Allerleirauh.” Aurelia enters the Kingdom of Saarland der Licht where she is taken under the wing of the handsome Prince Klaus. Aurelia must face herself, her past and her fears in her journey of self discovery.

“Allerleirauh” is a Retelling of the Grimm Brothers’ Fairy Tale classic.

***

Review 3.5 Stars

A dying queen makes the king promise that he will marry again, and that his new wife must be as bueatiful as her, with her golden hair.

After her death, the king tries his best to find a new wife who is as beautiful as his dead one, but no one comes close to being as beautiful as her, except for their daughter.

The king takes it into his head that he can marry no one else but his daughter in order to keep the promise to is dead wife. Trying to stall him, the princess asks for tree gowns: one of moonlight, one of sunlight and one of starlight. She also asks for a coat of a thousand furs from all the different animals in the kingdom, thinking that these things couldn't possibly me made.

When the king presents her with all these gifts, she has only one option and she runs away with the help of her maid. She is no loger Princess Aurelia, but Allerluliah, 'girl of a thousand furs'. And she finds shelter in the neigbouring kingdom in the palace of Prince Klaus.

I have a soft spot for fairy tale retellings. The fairy tales we've heard as children are really the bare bones of the story. But here, the author has taken the tale and added to it, given it more depth and characterisation than the original. The character we get to know most about is Aurelia, as the whole tale is told from her point of view. I would have liked to have been in Prince Klaus' head for some of it, just to see what his thoughts and feelings were.

Despite it being a fairy tale, Aurelia doesn't wait around for a prince to rescue her, she rescues herself with a bit of help from her maid. It's not a comfortable tale because of the subject matter, but it is handled delicately and is not done to shock or in a gratitious way.

I did enjoy the story and the writing has a fairy tale/fantasy type feel, but there were a few niggles which jarred me out of the story. There were a few wrong word choices in a few scenes: decorum instead of decor, curiosity was peeked instead of piqued, things like that. They weren't enough to make me stop reading as I wanted to find out what happens, but they did make me scratch my head a bit. Another round of editing would have made it so much better.

Book Description:

If they can solve the puzzle that is Sarah, she may double her pleasure.

Damon and Jared Bentley seem to have it all—wealth, standing, and ownership of an elite BDSM club. But since they lost the woman they loved, none of life’s pleasures have been as sweet. Until they meet Sarah.

Underneath her polite veneer, ink, and scars, Sarah Evans hides her pain and damaged soul. She strives to remain an enigma to the Bentleys for fear her secrets could destroy them. But the brothers know they’ve finally found the sub they’ve been longing for…and they won’t give up until they claim Sarah for their own.

***

Excerpt:

Damon Bentley checked his watch after he set a tall glass of beer in front of a customer. His brother and co-club owner, Jared, caught his eye from across the room. Jared shook his head in warning, but Damon had never really been the careful Bentley brother. He didn’t plan his next moves, or bother with a game plan.

Although he didn’t possess his brother’s polished looks or manners, Damon saw what he wanted. Took what he wanted. Period.

Right on cue, Sarah Evans walked into the club’s private lounge. Her tense leather-clad shoulders relaxed at the club’s familiar atmosphere. Her eyes looked less guarded compared to the rare moments Damon spotted her outside the club from the security feed in the parking lot.

A tempting smile settled on her generous lips—an open invitation to any top she wanted to play.

Young and jaded, damaged and mysterious, Sarah cast a pretty picture.

Entry into the Lance, the exclusive BDSM club owned and run by a group of self-made entrepreneurs and billionaires—including the Bentley brothers and two other friends and shareholders—was by invitation only.

Legally, Sarah checked out. She had references from Bobby and James, a couple and long-time patrons of Lance, but something felt off about Sarah the moment Damon and Jared first saw her. Those eyes looked far too haunted for her young body—jaded, wary, and watchful. Sarah reminded Damon of an animal that had been injured before and was reluctant to trust again.

Was Sarah Evans even her real name, or a pseudonym she used? If she had secrets, Damon had every intention of unearthing them over time.

Most of the tops who had done public scenes with her over the past weeks confirmed Damon’s suspicions. Her age made her practically a kid by community standards, but she was no virgin, not a wide-eyed sub new to the scene. Mere observation made it hard to narrow down what kind of play she favored.

The first time she came to the club, she let Bobby and James top her in a public, but for a low-key rigging scene. For her second visit, Sarah went with Mistress Jane, a Domme in Bobby and James’ circle, and took a number of hard implements in an intense scene most new subs wouldn’t do—her stamina impressive. An enigma with a hundred complicated layers Damon and Jared couldn’t wait to peel away.

“What will it be?” Damon asked, feigning indifference as she found a seat on the bar. On the way to him, Damon noted she had already politely refused two offers.

“The usual, please.”

“You got to give me more than that, sweetheart.”

This time, one dark eyebrow rose. Damon, in fact, knew her usual. She ordered the same thing over the past few weeks, or had tops pay for her drink. Damon had to admit Sarah knew how to play her cards. How to look at tops underneath lowered lashes, to appear vulnerable and desirable, and to speak softly, while occasionally biting down on her lower lip. A woman who knew the power of the illusion she cast. Whoever trained her, trained her well, but Damon saw right through the second skin she wore.

“Guinness, please.” Please.

Damon found himself intrigued by her manners. How at odds it was with her outside appearance—tight skinny jeans, boots, worn leather jacket, piercings, and ink.

Her attention moved elsewhere again, eyeing the other people in the lounge while she drummed her fingers on the counter. Bobby and James usually hovered protectively by Sarah, acting as backup, but tonight, Damon noticed Sarah came alone. Perfect.

Book Spotlight & Giveaway: Wicked For You by Erzabet Bishop

Wicked for You
Westmore Wolves
Book 1
Erzabet Bishop
Genre: Shifters/Werewolves, Erotic Romance
Date of Publication: February 1, 2016
ISBN: 978-1-943576-64-7
Cover Artist: Erin DameronHill

Book Description:

True love awaits. Passion burns bright…

Carrick is an Alpha werewolf preparing for the annual Pack Gathering. Pack law dictates he must have a mate by his thirty-sixth year or forfeit his rule. But what if he’s already found her and lost her in a swirl of cinnamon-scented dreams?  Can this Alpha brave a sea of single wolfy females to find the one woman who enchanted his heart?

She’s a kitty girl, in a wolfy world…

Sage is the curvy owner of the Hot Whips Café. Bound by pack law, even as an adopted cat, she must attend the Gathering for the Alpha to select a new mate. Heading to a wolf ball isn’t high on her list of fun activities, but damned if she can’t get the image of a certain amber-eyed wolf out of her head.

***

Excerpt:

Carrick stood with his back to his second in command, his wolf pacing beneath his skin. He wanted to break the double doors open and bound into the woods rather than face the torment waiting for him in the grounds outside. Women. Hundreds of single wolfy females. All vying for the privilege of putting his cock and balls into their handbags like some godforsaken trophy.

Fuck.

Ever year he’d dodged the bullet, but this year one of the hungry piranha circling his house would become his mate.

Double fuck. He’d been through this before. He already had one. He just needed to find her, but the elders wouldn’t listen.

“You have to make a choice, Alpha.” Reid crossed the room and stood in front of him, blocking his view.

Carrick growled and spun away. “I’ll find her.”

Reid’s lips flattened, his dark eyes flashing in his anger. “You know the rules. Thirty-six is the last year an Alpha can rule without a mate by his side. The pack needs an Alpha female to be whole.”

“The pack is stronger than it’s been, or are you forgetting how I got here?”

Reid swallowed and backed up a step. “No. Justin was a horrible Alpha. You were right to destroy him. He was wrong for the Westmore Pack. Evil.”

And the bastard had been. He’d abused his power as Alpha to enslave his pack rather than uplift it. The amount of victims he’d unearthed in the days that followed would disturb him for the rest of his days. He could still see the faces of the women Justin had taken against their will and the shivering form of his sister and the strange girl who stood up to a monster.

Hers was the face that  haunted his dreams. Her need reached out to him and made him into who he needed to be to overcome a near impossible situation. He had been up against a being far superior in strength but what he lacked in brawn, he’d more than made up for in sheer bullheadedness. And the electricity he felt when he touched her. His wolf recognized his mate and so did he. Now all that remained was to find her. It wasn’t like he hadn’t been looking. No one knew her name and, with her face partially shifted, her image was only a fleeting ghost in his mind.

“You’re damned right.” Carrick leaned back against his desk and rubbed the bridge of his nose. His father would be proud of the work he’d done. He’d turned the Westmore Estate from a near financial ruin to a lucrative operation centered on the newly formed security company owned by him and his second, Reid. Where people had once feared shifters for their propensity for violence because of Justin and his henchmen, he’d turned the tide and people paid for their protection. Handsomely. So much so that when the media had heard about the weekend’s festivities, he’d been dubbed the Ultimate Bachelor.

It made him fucking nauseous.

The one person he needed to find and he couldn’t and it made him crazy. Now, in a matter of a few days, he would either have to relinquish his role as Alpha or marry a gold digging piece of arm candy. The closest person he’d found was a barista at the coffee place he frequented but she didn’t look anything like the girl in his dreams. And now whenever she saw him coming, she hightailed it for the hills.

But she had popped a whisker.

Just like his goddess.

Jesus. He was losing his shit. Completely.

Book Spotlight & Giveaway: Chemistry by Sam Crescent

Chemistry
Sam Crescent
Genre: Contemporary, BBW, Erotic Romance
Date of Publication: February 1, 2016
ISBN: 978-1-943576-58-6
Cover Artist: Erin DameronHill

Book Description:

Will their romance survive when the cameras stop rolling?

Action film star Adam Feltworth’s last movie flopped big time, yet he’s offered one last chance to star in a romantic drama alongside the up-and-coming actress, Sara Leigh. Adam has never filmed sexy scenes with a full-figured woman, but he’s been warned—it’s this or retirement.

Throughout her career, Sarah has portrayed the fat, supportive best friend. With her breakout movie, Chemistry, she hopes to finally bring the pleasingly plump heroine into the mainstream spotlight. Knowing Adam’s history of preferring svelte beauties, she doesn’t want him for the part.

When Adam first holds Sarah during the screen test, a spark ignites that neither one expects. Now Adam’s problem is bigger than simply filming a hit movie to save his floundering career. He needs to prove to Sarah that she’s the only woman he desires…both on and off the screen.

***

Excerpt:

Sarah’s lips were tingling, and the back of her head was hurting from several of the men grabbing her. The kiss was supposed to start out slow and build until it was like watching fire on the screen. Biting her lip, she stared down at the script that she knew word-for-word. Every job she went into, she always made sure that she knew what was expected of her, and this was no different.

Tucking some hair behind her ear, she stood up from her chair and started to pace.

Dean, her agent and the closest thing she had to a father, came up to her. “Hey, princess, how are you doing?”

“I’m doing good. What’s next? Or are we done for today?” She kind of hoped they were done for the day. Her lips were hurting, and she didn’t know how many more guys she could handle sucking face with.

This was her first ever breakout romance movie, and the studio was determined to pair her up with someone who she shared chemistry with. They believed in the script and that, with the right casting, the movie could be a success. At size sixteen, Sarah had been prepared to slim down, but Dean told her not to. The studio wanted to do something radical, and that meant casting a larger woman in the main role as the love interest.

Sarah was used to having a lot of scathing reports about her weight. She’d struggled with it all of her life, but it didn’t stop her from being hired.

“You’ve got one more guy this afternoon. He’ll be arriving in ten minutes, knowing the actor, make it half an hour.”

“Who’s the guy?”

“Adam Feltworth.”

“The action guy?” Great, her day was getting worse with him being next in line to do a make out scene.

“Rumor has it that he’s hoping to change his image, and he wants this role.”

“I doubt that.” She heard he was difficult to work with, and now no one wanted anything to do with him. Sarah had watched many of his movies, and after the third one she’d grown bored. The same movie, the same storyline, and the same actions. Sarah grew bored, and she hadn’t watched an Adam Feltworth movie in over five years.

“Look, they want you, Sarah. It doesn’t matter what Adam wants. He either abides by their rules, or he’s out.”

Dean’s pep talk didn’t make her feel any better.

Taking her seat once again, she glanced at her watch to see that Adam was in fact late. Ten minutes went by, and as she looked at the director, producer, writer, and several members from the studio paying for the movie to be made, she saw they were all angry.

Half an hour later Adam walked into the room as if he owned the place. Sarah averted her gaze, not liking his attitude as he walked up to the director and producer. Flicking through the script, she listened to their conversation.

“You’re late. We will not deal with tardiness. We’re on a deadline, you miss that deadline twice in a row, you’re out,” the director said.

That surprised her, and when she looked up, she saw the surprise on Adam’s face. Niles, his agent, started making excuses.

“I don’t care for excuses. The rules are the rules, and if you have a problem, take it up with the boss,” the director said, speaking up. Mitch wasn’t in a good mood.

“I’ve never been forced to have time constraints,” Adam said.

“You want in on my movie, you will.” Mitch moved toward her. “Now, this is Sarah Leigh, she’ll be playing the main love interest, Piper Salt. The scene we will be testing today is the first kiss. Take a seat, Adam.”

Sarah forced herself to watch as Adam approached. He took a seat, and she was shocked by how childish he was being. At thirty-five years old, shouldn’t he be able to handle himself a lot better?

“Your character is David, and you’ve just realized that you’ve fallen in love with the girl everyone overlooks. Now, are you familiar with the scene?” Mitch asked.

“I’ve read over it, yes.”

“Good. Let’s go in three, two, one.”

Sarah had already placed her script down on the table, and she didn’t need to look at it. Smiling at Adam, who was in fact David, she chuckled. “What is your problem? It was one date, and it wasn’t exactly a good date.” She reached out to take her imaginary coffee cup and took a sip.

Adam sighed, rubbing at his temple, and turning toward her. He leaned his elbows on the table, and lifted his gaze to hers. For once, she actually believed that Adam was staring at her. “You shouldn’t go out with guys that are coded or designed to be compatible. It’s a computer system. It’s not real.”

“This is how we modern women do it, David. I can’t just go wandering into some bar and wait for it to happen. I’m not like you. How many women have you screwed in the last month? Twenty? Thirty? Did you do more than one a night?” She licked her lips and tilted her head to the side. Her cheeks started to flush like they always did when she spoke of screwing, and sex, and everything she didn’t have a clue about it. Twenty-five-years old, and still a virgin, it was pitiful.

“You can’t find what you’re looking for online.”

“And I can’t find it in a bar. I mean, look at me. I’m not the kind of girl that men look at.”

She went to grab her cup, and Adam stopped her, placing his hand on top of hers. “I’m looking, Piper.”

Giving a nervous chuckle, she shook her head. “You’re my best friend.”

“I’m not looking at you like you’re my best friend. When I look at you, I see a woman I want, Piper, a woman I need.”

“David?”

He leaned in close, and Sarah couldn’t stop herself, she glanced down at his lips. “What are you doing?”

“I’m going to do what I’ve been dreaming about for fucking years.” His lips pressed against hers, hesitant at first, and slowly, he deepened the kiss.

Everything fell away, and Sarah completely forgot that she was supposed to be acting. He plundered her mouth with his tongue, and instead of yanking on her hair, he cupped her cheek.

“Cut!”

Author Interview: Thirst by RP Channing

Author Bio

R P Channing started writing three years ago, but never published anything even after churning out over a million words of fiction. Thirst: Blood of my Blood is the first book he dared to publish. When asked why, he said, “Because it’s the first thing I wrote that my wife actually enjoyed reading.” When not hammering away (most literally) at his keyboard, he can be found buried in a book, reading anything from romance to horror to young adult to non-fiction to comedy.

Do you plan everything or just let the story flow?

I do a bit of both, although I tend to let the story flow more often than not. I've tried outlining, plotting beforehand. It always fails.

Do your characters ever want to take over the story?

All the time! I start writing and then they develop minds of their own. There's no controlling them.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Night owl by far. Sometimes I'll fall into an "early-to-bed" rhythm, but it never lasts.

Do you listen to music while writing?

No. I did once but I found it distracts from the mood of the story. An author is trying to create a mood, and if you're feeling something from the music then that mood is not coming from your book.

Could you tell us a bit about your latest release?

Thirst is a YA novel about ghosts, demons, vampires and witches. It's a paranormal romance with a touch of scary in it. At its core, it's a romance, and the depth of the love between the two main characters took a lot of work to put together.

Who, or what, if anything has influenced your writing?

I take something out of every book I read. And I always try and look for what's good in a book rather than poke at what's bad. That's the only way to truly learn something. There are a million ways to do something wrong, and only one way to do it right. So you need to focus on what's right when reading books from other authors so you can do it yourself in your own stories.

What are three words that describe you?

Obstinate. Bullheaded. Tenacious. (Oh, wait, those are synonyms. Oh well...)

About the Book:

Thirst: Blood of my Blood
by RP Channing
240+ Pages
WITH BEAUTIFUL PHOTOGRAPHS
YA Paranormal Romance/Dark Fantasy/Demons/Witches/Vampires

~ Kira Sutherland ~

After a near fatal accident (and getting cheated on by her 'boyfriend'), and beating up the lead cheerleader (with whom the boyfriend cheated...), and being labeled as having 'issues' in her school because she, uhm, sees ghosts, Kira is left with two choices:

1. Continue her 'therapy' (where she's told the ghost is a hallucination and also gets her legs ogled too often...)

Or

2. Go to Starkfield Academy, a boarding school for "Crazies and Convicts" (as the social media sites call them.)

She chooses the latter...

~ Cory Rand ~

Cory Rand has not had an easy life. His mother died in a car accident when he was twelve, and so did his mother's best friend...sort of. You see, Janice made a promise to take care of Cory just before she died, and so she lingers. Undead. A ghost that watches out for him.

Brought up in an abusive home, Cory quickly falls into a life of disreputable behavior. After his third offense (which was prompted by a girl, as usual - he has a weakness) he's left with two choices:

1. Be tried as an adult and share a cell with a guy named Bubba (he thinks...)

Or

2. Go to Starkfield Academy, which Cory is pretty sure is run by vampires. But, hey, at least he'll get an education.

He chooses the latter...

It's at Starkfield that Kira meets Cory Rand, a boy with an insatiable Rage who sees ghosts, too. As well as other things, other things from his past, things that confuse him, things like fire and witches and demons.

Things he's always ignored.

Until now.

Book Description:

When speed and seduction combine, sparks are sure to fly.

Some girls enjoy makeup, low-cut dresses, and bedding famous men. Not me. I’m happiest in my oily overalls, with my hands in an engine, chatting with the guys on my team about aerodynamics and wing position.

So when infamous Formula One champion, Dean Cudditch, comes into my life, I’m content to leave him to his lothario ways. Dean seems on top of the world when draped with adoring female fans, and I refuse to be another of the champ’s conquests.

However, as I get to know the real Dean Cudditch, I begin to see a softer side to him that makes him all the sexier. My resolve crumbles when he admits that it’s my mechanical mind and engineering know-how that turn him on. Before I know it, I’m racing down the fast lane of seduction, passion, and lust. One thing is for sure: when Dean is behind the wheel, it’s going to be one hot ride.

Excerpt:

“But…you’re a girl.”

“Er, yeah, last time I looked.” Frankie resisted the temptation to throw a wrench at the gorgeous man standing in front of her.

“She’s the best of the best.” Eric Tucker, the man who’d hired her, rested his hand on her shoulder in a fatherly gesture.

“Well, obviously I need the best of the best. It’s what I’m used to.” Dean Cudditch, Formula One champion, shifted the helmet in his hand and continued to stare at Frankie as if she were some kind of alien lifeform.

“And you’ve been trying to replace Ruben for the last few years,” Eric said, “but it hasn’t been happening. Now is the time to get a lead engineer like Frankie on board.”

“I can do the job,” Frankie said. “Wouldn’t be standing here if I couldn’t.”

What a prick. Why should he need convincing? She had top university qualifications, practical know-how, the experience. Hell, she had experience coming out of her ears. Five years traveling the world on the Ferrari team did that to a person.

Dean frowned and rubbed at the crease marks on his forehead. The fireproof mask he’d worn when driving must have had a kink in it during his training lap. “And you’re Australian.”

“And that’s a problem because…?” Fuck it, amazeballs driver or not, she was going to kick him in the balls in a minute.

“It’s not a problem.” He kind of shrugged, and the cream all-in-one racing suit he wore creased around his collarbones. “Just haven’t heard of you.”

“It’s a big world. You can’t possibly know everyone.” And she was beginning to wish she didn’t know him. Sure, she’d admired him from afar for years. What woman wouldn’t? He ticked all the boxes—sexy, talented, rich, dangerous—though now he was adding asshole to the list she suddenly wasn’t as keen as she had been.

“The world of Formula One isn’t that big. It’s the same people doing the rounds year after year.” He frowned.

“Yeah, well, I’m a highly qualified engineer, not an adoring groupie. Maybe that’s why you’ve missed me while you were bedding all those other women who follow drivers around, strutting their stuff at parties in tight dresses but can’t tell one end of the car from the other.” She was on a roll. “And I wear this so you can’t see my tits.” She plucked at the shapeless oil-stained overall she wore. “So perhaps that’s why I didn’t appear on your radar. Well, I’ll tell you something. I’ve been working the circuits, managing a team, a winning team, I might add, and if it hadn’t been for Eric doubling my salary, I wouldn’t be standing in front of your misogynistic, misinformed, egotistical sorry ass now, would I? And, while we’re on the subject—”

“Okay.” Harold squeezed her shoulder. “We get your point.” He coughed as though uncomfortable.

“Well then,” Dean said, his voice unnervingly calm. “Seems like you can talk the talk…what did you say your name was?”

“Frankie. Frankie Wright.”
